About Lookout Rock

Lookout Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Gold Beach, Oregon, where the bottom falls away through depths ranging from 330 to 1,310 feet. The rock structure holds a strong rockfish community, with Black Rockfish peaking June through August and Blue Rockfish running Mars through April and again into summer, both of which respond well to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June to October, taken by trolling cut-plug herring, spoons, and flashers along the edge. Lingcod concentrate over the rock in January and February and hit jigged metal jigs and swimbaits, while Pacific Halibut hold across the deeper drift zones from March to August, worked with herring, squid, and leadhead jigs. Cabezon fill in the spring and late-summer months over the same rocky bottom, taking leadhead jigs and swimbaits.
