STRUCTURE
Flat
Outer Exposed

Heceta Bank sits offshore of Florence, Oregon, an outer-exposed flat of mixed bottom that drops through depths of 180 to 260 feet. The bank holds a strong groundfish community, with Petrale Sole, Sablefish, Pacific Sand Dab, English Sole, and Lingcod all working the structure, the Lingcod bite peaking January through April. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September and Coho from June to October, drawing anglers to the water column above the flat. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the mixed bottom, while live bait fishing with whole herring or sanddabs works the same depths. For salmon, trolling cut-plug herring, anchovies, and flashers with hoochies covers ground across the bank, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring a slower alternative.
