STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Inner Protected

Cannery Island sits in the protected inner waters of Winchester Bay, Oregon, where a rocky drop-off falls through depths of 60 to 85 feet. Chinook Salmon run strongest from June through September and Coho Salmon from June through October, with trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, or flashers with hoochies working the water column and mooching serving as a supporting approach. The rocky bottom holds Lingcod, which peak from January through March and respond to jigging metal jigs and swimbaits or bottom fishing with cut bait and squid, alongside Black Rockfish and Cabezon that take leadhead jigs and swimbaits through the warmer months. Pacific Halibut move through from March to August and are worked by drift fishing herring, salmon bellies, and squid across the drop-off. Dungeness Crab fill in from August through November, taken in crab pots baited with fish carcasses, clams, and squid over the protected bottom.
