About Winchester Point Hump

Winchester Point Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from the outer, exposed waters off Winchester Bay, Oregon, where depths run 75 to 100 feet over broken structure. Lingcod hold tight to this rock and peak from January through March, while Pacific halibut move through from March into August and Chinook and coho salmon push across the area from summer into early fall. The pinnacle also holds yelloweye, canary, and vermilion rockfish alongside Pacific cod, which peaks September through November. Anglers work the rock for lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop live greenling and herring against the structure, while halibut come to herring, squid, or octopus drifted along the bottom nearby. Salmon are taken by trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, and flashers with hoochies through the water column above the hump.
