The Hump at 44.54994, -124.11521 is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer exposed seafloor off Newport, Oregon, holding fish across a depth range of 45 to 95 feet. The structure concentrates a strong rockfish population—Yelloweye, Canary, Bocaccio, and Copper Rockfish—alongside Lingcod, which peak in February and March, and Pacific Halibut, which run strongest from March through July. Lingcod hold tight to the rock, where jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs works the pinnacle's edges and crown. Halibut sit on the surrounding bottom and respond to drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid worked along the base. Chinook Salmon move through from May to September and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling herring, flashers with hoochies, and spoons over the deeper water surrounding the structure.
