The Rockpile is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Newport, Oregon, rising through depths of 15 to 50 feet. Its structured rock holds a strong bottomfish population, with Lingcod peaking February through March and Pacific Halibut running from March into July, alongside Canary, Yelloweye, and Widow Rockfish plus Pacific Cod and Sablefish. Lingcod respond well to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the pinnacle, while halibut come to drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid across the surrounding bottom. Salmon move through in the warmer months, with Chinook peaking May through September and Coho from June into October, both taken by trolling herring, flashers, and hoochies over the exposed structure. The mix of shallow rock and deeper edges keeps the target species stacked across a wide seasonal window.
