Siletz Reef is an outer, exposed sand flat off Depoe Bay, Oregon, sitting in 15 to 40 feet of water where open ground draws in both bottomfish and passing salmon. Pacific Halibut moves through from March to August, while Chinook and Coho Salmon peak from May through September, with Coho holding strong into the summer. Copper Rockfish runs from May to September, and Lingcod peaks earlier in the year across February and March. For halibut, drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, squid, or octopus covers the sand effectively, and jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs and swimbaits works the same ground for copper rockfish and lingcod. Salmon are taken by trolling whole herring, anchovies, flashers, and spoons over the flat, with mooching cut-plug or whole herring as a quieter alternative.
