About Seal Rocks Hump

Seal Rocks Hump is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Newport, Oregon, rising through water that runs 45 to 95 feet deep. The structure holds a strong groundfish community, with lingcod peaking in February and March and Pacific halibut moving through from March into July, alongside resident Canary Rockfish, Yelloweye Rockfish, Bocaccio, and Pacific Cod. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the rock, while halibut come to drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid across the deeper edges. The site also draws salmon over open water, with Chinook peaking May through September on trolled cut-plug herring, whole herring, anchovies, or flashers with hoochies, and Coho running June through October on trolling spoons, flashers, herring, and hoochies. The pinnacle's rise and outer exposure concentrate fish along its steep faces, making depth control and drift direction the key variables when working the structure.
