About Big Mans Reef
Big Mans Reef is an artificial reef in Texas Gulf state waters off Galveston, Texas. Sheepshead peak here from January through March, Spanish mackerel and king mackerel peak from April through October, and red snapper peak from April through August, with cobia also among the reef's target species. Sheepshead and red snapper hold tight to the reef structure, so bottom fishing is the dominant approach for both: live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or barnacles for sheepshead, and cut bait, squid, or cigar minnows for red snapper. Spanish mackerel respond to casting small metal spoons, diamond jigs, and gotcha plugs around the reef. King mackerel are targeted by trolling stinger-rigged ribbonfish, cigar minnows, and diving plugs, or by slow trolling live menhaden and live blue runners near the structure.
