About Buccaneer Reef North
Buccaneer Reef North is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Galveston, Texas, where placed structure draws pelagic and bottom species. King mackerel peak here from April through October, while red snapper hold over the structure with a peak from April through August. Cobia, greater amberjack, and gray triggerfish round out the species that work the reef. Anglers targeting king mackerel troll stinger-rigged ribbonfish, cigar minnows, diving plugs, and trolling spoons around the reef's edges, or slow troll live menhaden, blue runners, and hardtails. Red snapper respond to bottom fishing with cut bait, squid, and cigar minnows dropped tight to the structure, and vertical jigging with metal, butterfly, and bucktail jigs works the same water.
