About Fort Crockett Seawall Groin
Fort Crockett Seawall Groin is a rock breakwater extending from the Galveston seawall into Texas Gulf State Waters, where the structure breaks the surf and draws baitfish along its edges. Sheepshead and Black Drum lead the winter bite from January through March, with bottom fishing using live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and barnacles worked tight against the rocks. Spotted Seatrout peak from March through May, and live shrimp under popping cork rigs drift naturally along the groin's flanks. Spanish Mackerel hold from April through October, when small metal spoons and diamond jigs cast past the tip of the breakwater reach fish feeding in the open water. Red Drum run strongest from August through October, overlapping with the Southern Flounder push from September through November, when soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads bounced along the base of the rocks work for both species.
