About Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier
Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier extends from the Galveston seawall into the open Gulf surf of Texas Gulf State Waters. Spanish Mackerel run the pier from April through October, Red Drum peak from August through October, and Southern Flounder follow from September through November. Sheepshead and Black Drum hold the cooler window from January through March, and Spotted Seatrout peak from March through May. Around the pilings, bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and barnacles targets Sheepshead, while fresh dead shrimp, blue crab, and cut mullet on the bottom draw Black Drum. Off the end and sides, casting small metal spoons, diamond jigs, and gotcha plugs connects with passing Spanish Mackerel, and drift fishing live shrimp or live croaker produces Red Drum and Spotted Seatrout.
