About Galveston South Jetty

Galveston South Jetty is a rock jetty extending into Texas Gulf State Waters off Galveston, Texas, where boulder structure draws inshore and nearshore species throughout the year. Red Drum peak from August through October, and drift fishing with live shrimp, live finger mullet, or cut mullet along the rocks accounts for most catches. Winter and early spring belong to Sheepshead and Black Drum, both peaking January through March, and bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or fresh dead shrimp tight to the boulders targets fish feeding on the encrusted structure. Spotted Seatrout move in from March through May and respond to live shrimp under popping cork rigs, while Spanish Mackerel run April through October and strike small metal spoons and diamond jigs cast along the jetty face. Southern Flounder close out the season from September through November, when jigging soft plastic paddle tails and shrimp-tipped jigs along the base of the rocks covers the transition zone where they hold.
