About Outer Bar Channel Hump
Outer Bar Channel Hump is a sand-bottom pinnacle rising in 15 to 35 feet of water off Galveston, Texas, fully exposed to the open Texas Gulf State Waters. Sheepshead and Black Drum stack on the hump from January through March, when bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or fresh dead shrimp works the base of the structure. Spotted Seatrout move through from March to May and respond to live shrimp or live croaker. Spanish Mackerel hold over the hump from April to October and fall to small metal spoons and diamond jigs cast across the top. Late summer and fall bring Red Drum from August to October, taken by drift fishing live finger mullet or cut mullet along the edges, and Southern Flounder from September to November, worked on soft plastic paddle tails jigged along the sand.
