About Shoal Point
Shoal Point is a protected mud flat in the Galveston Bay System near Galveston, Texas, where depths run from 5 to 15 feet across soft bottom sheltered from open-water exposure. Red Drum peak from August through October and respond to drift fishing with live shrimp, live finger mullet, or cut mullet worked across the mud. Spotted Seatrout move onto the flat from March through May, when live shrimp under popping cork rigs and soft plastic paddle tails on jig heads cover the shallower edges. Black Drum hold here from January through March and feed along the bottom on fresh dead shrimp and blue crab. Southern Flounder close out the year from September through November, settling into the soft mud where soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads and live mud minnows fished on the bottom draw strikes.
