About Texas City Channel Hump
The Texas City Channel Hump is a pinnacle of mixed bottom rising along the protected inner waters of the Galveston Bay System, with depths running from 25 to 45 feet. Red Drum peak here from August through October, and Southern Flounder follow from September through November. Spotted Seatrout peak from March through May. Black Drum and Sheepshead hold on the structure from January through March. Drift fishing with live shrimp, live finger mullet, or cut mullet across the slopes of the hump targets Red Drum, while jigging soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads along the mixed bottom works Southern Flounder. Bottom fishing with fresh dead shrimp, blue crab, or fiddler crabs tight to the pinnacle takes Black Drum and Sheepshead during the winter months.
