About West Outer Bar Channel Hump
West Outer Bar Channel Hump is a sand-bottom pinnacle rising off the Galveston coast in Texas Gulf State Waters, sitting in exposed outer water at depths of 25 to 45 feet. Spanish Mackerel run the hump from April through October, while Sheepshead and Black Drum peak from January through March and Spotted Seatrout move through from March to May. Red Drum peak from August through October, and Southern Flounder follow from September through November. Mackerel anglers work the structure by casting small metal spoons, diamond jigs and bucktail jigs or by trolling small trolling spoons and small diving plugs along its edges. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs and cracked blue crab produces Sheepshead, Black Drum and Red Drum on the sand surrounding the pinnacle, and jigging soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads takes Southern Flounder in the fall.
