Deer Point is a rock drop-off in Bellingham's DFO subarea 7, dropping through mid-exposure water from 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their June to September peak alongside Coho Salmon, which run from June into October, and both respond to downrigger trolling with whole herring, spoons, hoochies, and flashers, or to mooching with cut-plug herring over the structure. Lingcod work the rock in two windows, November through February and again March through June, and take leadhead jigs with swimbaits or live greenling drifted along the drop. Pacific Halibut move through from April to August, holding near the deeper end where drifting herring, squid, or octopus reaches bottom. Black Rockfish stack over the same rock from June to August and hit metal jigs and swimbaits worked through the water column.
