Fern Point is a rock drop-off in Bellingham, Washington, sitting in DFO subarea 7 with a mid-exposure profile and depths running from 260 to 660 feet. The steep structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to September peak and Coho Salmon from June into October, with both species worked over the drop using downrigger trolling with flashers, hoochies, and trolling spoons, or mooching with whole and cut-plug herring. Lingcod concentrate on the rock in two windows, November through February and March through June, taken on leadhead jigs with swimbaits and metal jigs, or by drifting live greenling and herring close to the bottom. Pacific Halibut move through from April to August and respond to herring, squid, and octopus drifted along the deeper contours. Black Rockfish stack up over the same structure from June to August, holding to jigs and swimbaits fished tight to the rock.
