About Argyle Shoal
Argyle Shoal is a mid-exposure sand flat off Oak Harbor, Washington, running 20 to 60 feet deep within Marine Area 7. The shoal draws Pacific Halibut from March through June and Lingcod through their February–March peak, alongside Chinook and Coho Salmon that both hold from June into September. Anglers work the sand bottom for halibut with drift jigging using leadhead jigs, metal jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits, backing that with bait fishing on herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and bucktail jigs across the same depth band, while trolling flashers, spoons, hoochies, and cut plug herring covers the salmon runs. The flat also holds Pacific Cod, English Sole and other flatfish, and Walleye Pollock through the year.
