About Danger Rock

Danger Rock is a mid-exposure flat with mixed bottom off Oak Harbor, Washington, in Marine Area 7, holding water from 15 to 40 feet. The spot produces Chinook and Coho Salmon through their summer peak from June to September, while Lingcod fishing runs strongest in February and March and Pacific Halibut through the March to June window. Black Rockfish hold over the mixed bottom across a long stretch from February to September, sharing the ground with English Sole, Pacific Cod, and Kelp Greenling. Trolling flashers, trolling spoons, hoochies, or cut plug herring covers the salmon at these depths, with mooching whole or cut plug herring as a slower alternative. Lingcod respond to metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and bucktail jigs worked along the bottom, and the same jigging approach with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, or swimbaits takes Black Rockfish holding tight to structure.
