I’ve been using ReelCaster for about a month and I love it! Having all the conditions listed together is really handy and makes deciding when to go a no brainer instead of checking multiple apps and sites to get wind, current, sea conditions and tides. I highly recommend ReelCaster!

ReelCaster has completely changed how I plan my fishing trips. It brings together tides, currents, wind, swell, and water temperature in one place, then pinpoints the best times and locations to fish. It saves me time and gives me real confidence I’m on the water when conditions are ideal.

ReelCaster was very helpful in helping me figure out where and when to fish! I was lucky enough to catch a 7 lb Coho right off the beach. The info that the app provided was really helpful and it saved me the trouble of looking at multiple sources to figure out tides, weather, and regulations.

STRUCTURE

Inner Protected

Thompson Spit is an inner protected sand flat off Oak Harbor, Washington, in Marine Area 6, with depths running from 5 to 25 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon peak from June through September, while Chum Salmon move through from September into November, and the sandy bottom holds English Sole, Starry Flounder, and Dungeness Crab through the summer, with crab pots working the flat from June to August. Trolling with flashers, trolling spoons, hoochies, or cut plug herring covers the salmon runs across the shallow water, and mooching whole or cut plug herring works the same depths. Lingcod hold near what structure the flat offers, peaking in February and March, and respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits. The protected exposure and moderate depth keep conditions workable through the seasonal windows.
