Skunk Island is a rocky drop-off near Port Townsend, Washington, in DFO subarea 9, where the bottom falls through a mid-exposure zone running roughly 30 to 150 feet. The structure holds a strong salmon run, with Chinook peaking June through August and Coho from June into September, alongside a resident groundfish population that includes Lingcod, Pacific Halibut, and several rockfish species. Chinook respond to mooching with cut-plug or whole herring, while Coho are taken by trolling flashers, hoochies, and trolling spoons across the same water. Lingcod peak March through May and take metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the rock, and Black Rockfish move through the shallower ledges from May to August on jigs and swimbaits. Pacific Halibut hold near the deeper edge of the drop-off in spring and early summer, reached with drift jigging using metal jigs or herring along the bottom.
