Decatur Reef is a sand flat in Seattle's Puget Sound waters, sitting within DFO subarea 10 at mid exposure with depths running 15 to 40 feet. The reef holds a broad mix of species through the year, with Pacific Halibut peaking March through August, Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon strongest from summer into fall, and Lingcod turning on in late winter and early spring. Anglers work the sand bottom for halibut with drift jigging using metal jigs, leadhead jigs with plastic, or herring, and switch to bottom bait fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid when the drift slows. Salmon fishing centers on trolling cut-plug or whole herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons across the flat, while lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and bucktail jigs over the shallower structure. Dungeness Crab fills the summer months, taken in crab pots baited with chicken, fish carcasses, turkey legs, or clams.
