Point Wells is a mixed-bottom drop-off in Seattle's DFO subarea 10, where the seafloor falls away through depths of 80 to 200 feet along a mid-exposure edge. Chinook Salmon move through in the summer, peaking July through September, while Coho Salmon hold from June into October and Lingcod come on strong in January and again February through April. Trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, or flashers with hoochies works the salmon along the drop, and mooching cut-plug herring is a productive supporting approach when fish stack over the break. Lingcod respond to jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits over the mixed bottom, with live greenling or live herring as an alternative on the structure. Pacific Halibut show March through August, and Black Rockfish stay active across most of the year, taking metal jigs and soft plastics worked near the bottom.
