Ketron Island sits in the protected inner waters of southern Puget Sound near Tacoma, where a mixed-bottom drop-off falls through depths of 30 to 150 feet within DFO subarea 13. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from June through September and Coho Salmon from July into October, with Pacific Halibut moving through the deeper edges from March to August and Lingcod concentrating on the rocky sections March through June. Trolling cut-plug herring, flashers, and spoons works the salmon along the contour, while mooching whole or cut-plug herring covers the same water at a slower pace. For halibut, drift jigging leadhead jigs with plastic swimbaits or herring reaches the bottom along the drop-off, and lingcod respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits worked over the mixed structure. Canary Rockfish, Copper Rockfish, and Pacific Cod share the same depth band across the harder bottom.
