Sandy Point is a sand-bottom drop-off in DFO subarea 13 off Tacoma, Washington, where the seafloor falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet under moderate exposure. The deep edge holds Pacific Halibut from March through August and Lingcod from March through June, with rockfish—copper, canary, and black—available across the year. Halibut hold along the sloping sand, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and plastic swimbaits or herring works the bottom, while bait fishing on spreader bars with whole herring or squid covers the same ground. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits along the structure, or live bait such as greenling and herring drifted near the break. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September and Coho from July to October, both taken by trolling flashers, spoons, hoochies, and cut-plug herring through the water column above the drop.
