Cape Beale sits off Bamfield on the outer exposed coast of British Columbia, a kelp reef over rock bottom that draws fish across depths of 15 to 80 feet. Lingcod hold on the reef with peaks from February through April and again July through September, while Pacific Halibut move through the deeper edges from March into August. Chinook and Coho Salmon run the surrounding water from May through the late summer, and Rockfish stack up over the structure from May through September. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for lingcod and rockfish, while trolling anchovy, herring, and flashers takes salmon through the exposed water. For halibut, drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics covers the deeper rubble along the reef's outer margins.
