Meares Bluff is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off near Bamfield, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from about 60 to 180 feet along a hard rock edge. Lingcod hold on this structure and peak from February through April and again from July through September, taken by jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or with live bait such as greenling and herring worked close to the rock. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and respond to trolling with anchovy, herring, flashers, and hootchies, while mooching cut-plug herring covers the same window. Coho Salmon run May through September and take trolled spoons, hootchies, and cut-plug herring along the exposed edge. The drop-off concentrates fish where the depth breaks, so working the transition zone from the shallow lip down to the deeper rock keeps baits in productive water.
