The Rat's Nose is an exposed rock pinnacle off Bamfield, British Columbia, rising through waters that run 120 to 240 feet along its outer edge. Lingcod hold tight to the rock structure with peaks from February through April and again from July through September, while Pacific Halibut work the surrounding bottom from March into August. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho Salmon from May into September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, flashers, and hootchies across the pinnacle's edges. Anglers jig metal jigs and swimbaits for lingcod over the rock, and drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics reaches halibut across the deeper flats below. The outer exposure and steep relief concentrate fish along the pinnacle, making structure and depth the key factors in working this spot.
