Hump 1.6 km NE of Wilby Shoals is a rocky pinnacle in the outer, exposed waters off Campbell River, rising through depths that range from 35 to 270 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from April through September, alongside Lingcod that fish strongest in May and June and again from August into September. Chinook Salmon move through the area from June to August, while Canary Rockfish, Darkblotched Rockfish, and Pacific Cod round out the resident catch over the rock. Halibut respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs across the deeper flats around the pinnacle, with whole herring, octopus, or squid worked on the bottom as a supporting approach. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and take metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and bucktail jigs, while Chinook are typically targeted by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies through the surrounding water.
