About Wilby Shoals

Wilby Shoals is a rock pinnacle off Campbell River, British Columbia, in DFO subarea 13-1, rising through outer, exposed water at depths of 25 to 40 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak in May and June and again from August through September, alongside resident Canary, Copper, Quillback, and China rockfish, plus Pacific Cod over the same rocky bottom. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August and Coho from May to September, with trolling spoons, hootchies, and flashers working the current lines for both. Anglers target Lingcod on the pinnacle itself with metal jigs, leadhead jigs and swimbaits, or bucktail jigs, and back that up with whole herring or live greenling on the rock. The shallow depth and exposed position keep the fish tight to structure, so working jigs close to the pinnacle over the 25-to-40-foot range is the reliable approach.
