Mitlenatch Island Hump

The Mitlenatch Island Hump is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Comox, British Columbia, rising through water that runs 150 to 340 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through July, alongside Lingcod that fish well in January through March and again from May into September. Halibut respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs over the pinnacle, with bottom bait fishing using whole herring, salmon bellies, or octopus as a supporting approach. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and take metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the bottom, or whole herring and live greenling on bait. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August and Coho from May to September, both taken by trolling spoons, hootchies, and herring across the exposed water above the high ground.
