About Montgomery Bank Hump

Montgomery Bank Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer exposed waters off Comox, British Columbia, in DFO subarea 14-13, with fishable depths running roughly 120 to 180 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from January through March and again from May through September, alongside Pacific Ocean perch, rougheye and shortraker rockfish, and sablefish drawn to the deep rock. Chinook salmon move through from June to August, while coho hold from May to September. Anglers work the pinnacle for lingcod by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the hard bottom, or drop bait such as whole herring, live greenling, and squid tight to the rock. For salmon, trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies over the exposed edges covers the moving fish, with mooching cut-plug herring a productive alternative for chinook.
