About Sentry Shoal

Sentry Shoal is an exposed rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 14-13 off Comox, British Columbia, rising through a depth range of 35 to 255 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from January through March and again from May through September, alongside Chinook Salmon in the June-to-August window and Coho Salmon from May through September. Rockfish including darkblotched, yellowmouth, and rosethorn share the rock, as does Pacific cod. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs down along the rock, or fish bait such as whole herring, live greenling, and squid closer to the structure. Salmon come to trolled anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies through the water column above the shoal, with mooching and metal jigs serving as alternatives for Chinook.
