Outer Exposed

Montgomery Bank is an outer-exposed flat off Comox, British Columbia, where a mixed bottom holds fish across depths of 120 to 180 feet. The bank produces Pacific Halibut through the spring and early summer with a peak from March to July, while Chinook Salmon move through and peak from June to August. Sablefish, Pacific Cod, and several rockfish species including Darkblotched, Sharpchin, and Rougheye work the same broken bottom, alongside Spiny Dogfish. Anglers target halibut by drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs across the flat, backing that up with bottom bait fishing using whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid. Chinook come to trolling with anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies, with mooching cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs as supporting tactics over this exposed structure.
