About Montgomery Bank

Montgomery Bank is an outer, exposed flat off Comox in DFO subarea 14-13, with mixed bottom holding across depths of 120 to 180 feet. The bank supports a range of groundfish, including Sablefish, Pacific Cod, and several rockfish species such as Darkblotched, Sharpchin, and Rougheye, alongside Spiny Dogfish. Chinook Salmon move through in numbers from June through August, making summer the focus for anglers working the water column. Trolling is the dominant approach here, with anchovy, herring, trolling spoons, and hootchies covering the flat's broad depth range. Mooching cut-plug or whole herring and jigging metal jigs work as supporting tactics when Chinook hold tighter to the mixed bottom.
