About Skinner Point

Skinner Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in Cowichan, British Columbia, within DFO subarea 18-8, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. The steep structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to September peak and Coho Salmon from June into October, with both species taken by downrigger trolling and trolling that works flashers, hootchies, spoons, and anchovy over the edge. Lingcod concentrate along the rock from June to August and respond to jigging with swimbaits and metal jigs, while Black Rockfish stack up from May to August and take metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits. Copper Rockfish hold on this bottom year-round and come to jigs and leadheads tipped with soft plastics worked close to the structure. Pacific Cod also move through the area, adding to the mix over this deep, current-swept edge.
