Scarrow Reef

Scarrow Reef is a rock pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water with fishable structure between 40 and 120 feet. The reef holds a strong groundfish population, with lingcod peaking from February through April and Pacific halibut through the long March-to-August window, alongside resident canary rockfish, Pacific ocean perch, and darkblotched rockfish. Chinook salmon move through from May to August and coho from June into October, giving the spot a productive summer overlap of salmon and bottom species. Anglers work the rocky pinnacle with metal jigs and swimbaits for lingcod, while halibut respond to drift jigging over the deeper edges with leadhead jigs and herring. Salmon are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, and spoons across the reef, with mooching cut-plug herring an effective approach for Chinook near the structure.
