Outer Exposed

Gayward Rock is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Kyuquot, British Columbia, rising through depths of 0 to 100 feet where current sweeps over hard structure. The pinnacle holds Lingcod, which peak from March through May and again from June through August, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active March through September and resident Quillback and Copper Rockfish. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to September, while Pacific Halibut work the deeper edges from March through August. Anglers target Lingcod and Black Rockfish by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs tight to the rock, and drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits accounts for Halibut over the sand near the pinnacle's base. Salmon come to trolling with anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies through the exposed water above the structure.
