Bare Point is a rock drop-off in DFO subarea 17-6 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, where the bottom falls through 260 to 660 feet at a mid-exposure location. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the primary summer targets here, both peaking from June through September, while Lingcod hold on the structure from March into August and Black Rockfish feed from February through September. Trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies works the salmon along the drop-off edge, and mooching cut-plug herring covers the same water at slower speeds. For Lingcod and Black Rockfish, jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs down the rock face reaches fish holding tight to the structure. Pacific Halibut and Pacific Cod also move through the deeper edges of this contour, with drift jigging over the bottom producing halibut in the lower part of the depth range.
