Clarke Rock is an exposed offshore pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-12 off Nanaimo, rising over rocky bottom in water that runs 60 to 180 feet. The structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon through their summer peak from June to September, while Lingcod come on strong from March into August and Black Rockfish stay active from February through September. Anglers work the salmon by trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies across the pinnacle, with cut-plug herring mooching a reliable alternative. Lingcod and rockfish hold tight to the rock, where metal jigs, leadhead jigs with soft plastics, and swimbaits dropped along the structure produce well. The outer-exposed position also brings Pacific Halibut within reach for those drift jigging leadhead jigs or herring across the deeper edges.
