Coffin Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 17-5 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the main summer draw, both peaking from June through September, while Lingcod runs strong in March and April and again from May into August. Trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies works the salmon along the edge of the structure, and mooching cut-plug herring covers the same water at a slower pace. Lingcod hold tight to the rock, where jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs down the face produces, with whole herring, live greenling, or squid as a bait alternative. The deeper contours here also hold Pacific Halibut, taken by drift jigging leadhead jigs with soft plastics or herring over the rocky bottom.
