Rock Outcrop

The Departure Bay Ferry Terminal Breakwater Area, known locally as Brechin Point, is a rock outcrop shore in Nanaimo, British Columbia, within DFO subarea 17-14. The rocky structure holds Rockfish year-round and Lingcod through their spring and summer peaks in March and April and again from May to August, with jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits working the broken bottom. Coho Salmon move through from June to September and respond to trolling with spoons, hootchies, and flashers, or to metal jigs when fish hold near the point. Dungeness Crab fill in from July to September, taken in traps or ring nets baited with fish carcasses, herring, or fish heads. Anglers can also work whole herring, squid, or live greenling along the outcrop for Lingcod when jigging slows.
