Grappler Rock is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-6 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water where depths run 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from March through April and again May through August, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active from February to September and resident Copper and China Rockfish. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or switch to whole herring, live greenling, and squid when the bite favors bait. Black Rockfish respond to jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs rigged with soft plastics over the same rocky ground. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through from June to September and are targeted by trolling anchovy, herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons around the structure.
