Power Squadron Reef is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-13 off Nanaimo, rising through mid-exposure water with depths that run from 40 to 120 feet. The reef holds Chinook and Coho Salmon through their summer peak from June to September, while Lingcod concentrate over the structure from March to April and again from May to August. Anglers troll anchovy, herring, and flashers with hoochies for salmon along the reef edges, and drop metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs into the rock for Lingcod. Pacific Halibut hold on the surrounding bottom and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or bait fished with whole herring and squid. The pinnacle also produces Canary and Quillback Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and other resident bottomfish across the same depth band.
