STRUCTURE
Pinnacle
Outer Exposed

Herald Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port Hardy, British Columbia, rising through rocky bottom in water that runs from 50 to 215 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from May through August and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs rigged with soft plastics, as well as bait fishing with whole herring, live greenling, or squid. Pacific halibut work the deeper reaches from March through August, taken by drift fishing whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid across the sloping rock. Chinook salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to September, both targeted by trolling herring, anchovy, spoons, and hootchies over and around the pinnacle. Canary, copper, and quillback rockfish share the same rocky ground, concentrating on the vertical relief where the pinnacle breaks up the outer-coast current.
