Foster Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, where a rocky bottom drops through a depth range of 80 to 395 feet. The structure holds a strong rockfish population, including rougheye, shortraker, quillback, and copper rockfish, with peak fishing for copper rockfish running June through September. Lingcod concentrate over the same rock through February and March and again from June into September, responding to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits or bait fishing with whole herring and live greenling. The deeper edges hold Pacific halibut from May through August, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and plastic swimbaits works the bottom over the pinnacle. Chinook and coho salmon move through the exposed waters from May into September, taken by trolling whole herring, spoons, and flashers with hootchies along the current lines that sweep the structure.
