Outer Exposed

Neill Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, where rock structure drops from roughly 60 to 250 feet. Lingcod hold on the pinnacle through several peaks across February–March, June–July, and August–September, taken by jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs, or with bait such as whole herring, live greenling, or squid. Pacific Halibut work the deeper margins from May through August and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits, metal jigs, or salmon belly. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through the exposed water from May into September and are targeted by trolling whole herring, anchovy, spoons, or flashers with hootchies. Copper Rockfish and other rockfish populate the rock from June to September, coming to jigged metal jigs and soft plastics along the structure.
