STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

San Juan Point marks an outer-exposed rock drop-off off Port Renfrew, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet along the edge of open water. Chinook Salmon run through this water from May to September, overlapping with Coho Salmon from June to September, while Lingcod hold on the rock structure from May to August and Pacific Halibut move through from March to August. Trolling anchovy, herring, and spoons works the salmon along the drop-off, and jigging with metal jigs targets Chinook holding deeper against the structure. Lingcod respond to metal jigs and swimbaits worked over the rock, while drift jigging with heavy leadhead jigs and herring reaches Halibut on the deeper contours. Black Rockfish hold over the same rock from March to September and take metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits.
