The hump 4.8 km southeast of San Simon Point rises from rocky bottom in outer, exposed water off Port Renfrew, forming a pinnacle that tops out in the 85 to 90 foot range. Pacific Halibut hold here through the peak months of March to August, with Lingcod concentrating over the rock from May to August and Chinook Salmon moving through from May to September. Drift jigging with heavy leadhead jigs, herring, or octopus works the halibut over the pinnacle, while bottom bait fishing with whole herring or salmon heads covers the same structure. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs tight to the rock, and Chinook are targeted by trolling anchovy, herring, or spoons across the exposed edges. Coho Salmon follow into the same water from June to September, taking trolled spoons and hootchies.
